I understand the value added for a service like RF, but you will need infrastructure in other countries--the local numbers equivalent to the 415 area code in San Francisco, and not all countries may have that equivalent. If that's the case, you may need to deploy more than one server per country, and that starts becoming interesting in terms of support, etc. What is the plan to have these numbers available? The way I see it--and it's perfectly valid--you're looking at this and see if it generates sufficient interest that it warrants infrastructure in other countries--and it can be as simple as running an Asterisk switch somewhere in such country. Excellent points. Expanding to other countries is in our immediate plans. We have been conducting controlled beta tests of RF.com in various other countries, and are looking forward to opening these up. Our plan is to launch our service in Canada on August 1, and soon after light up in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere. Your point about some countries not having a single number that would act as a local cell phone call throughout the country is very valid. Even more limiting, in many countries, phone numbers are strictly controlled and cannot be used with a service like ours. But, in designing RF.com, we have taken these limits into account. In short order, we'll be announcing a plan that will allow the use of the RF dialer even where such limits exist. Stay tuned! |
